Paul MacKay, PhD, P.Geol., P.Geoph
Paul Mackay has over 30 years of experience in the oil & gas industry. He began his career with Amoco in 1980 working both domestic and international plays. Joined Morrison Petroleums in 1993 where he was responsible for their Foothills division and drilled successful wells in both southern Alberta and NE British Columbia. From 1996 to 1998, worked as Exploration Manager at Northstar Energy (Devon Energy) where he was responsible for both their Foothills exploration program as well as a successful effort in onshore England. In 1998, Paul began an international consulting firm where he had over 40 different clients with exploration efforts across North America, Europe and the Middle East. Mr. MacKay was a key consultant to Rally Energy as well as an early consultant to Zodiac Exploration, Sunshine Oilsands and Western Zagros.
Prior to being a founder of Shale Petroleum Ltd. in 2011, Paul was President of Shale Exploration Ltd., a successful oil resource play company that also sold in 2011.
Paul holds a B.Sc. (Honours, Geol. Sci.) from Queen’s University and a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary. He is also an adjunct professor with the University of Calgary teaches industry courses in Structural Geology, Resource Plays, and Fracture Development and publishes widely on the Petroleum Geology of thrust belts and Natural Fracture systems. Paul is a member of Member of APEGA, CSPG, CSEG, and the AAPG and is currently the President of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists.
